Find family fun in Kansas City all year long! From fall festivities to holiday events to springtime adventures, there is so much for families to do every month of the year in KC!
We lived in the Kansas City area for four years, and loved exploring all of the amazing seasonal family fun.
From picking apples and pumpkins to holiday decor to fields of tulips — we enjoyed it all!
Here are my favorite things to do in Kansas City with kids for every season.
Fall family fun in KC
Pick apples, pumpkins & more in Weston

We loved visiting the Weston Orchard every season of the year, but especially in fall! It’s our favorite place for fall fun in KC!
Is there anything more quintessentially autumn than picking apples and pumpkins under blue September skies?
Weston Orchard has delicious apple cider donuts and so many great activities for families, from charming treehouses to the giant jump pillow.
We visited Weston Orchard multiple times each fall. It’s so fun and delicious!
Go back in time at the KC Ren Fest

The Kansas City Renaissance Festival is the perfect family-friendly fall outing in KC. There is so much to do and see, plus kid-friendly food, games, and shows.
It’s one of my favorite ren fests in the U.S. because it’s a great full-day adventure, but also not overwhelmingly huge for families!
Pro tip: Many of the characters at the faire have small baubles they offer kids who come talk to them! Our kids loved chatting with the mermaids, the king, princesses, the wizard, and more and gathered quite a collection of little treasures.
GloWild at the KC Zoo
Handmade silk sculptures illuminate the Kansas City Zoo each fall for GloWild. It’s an enchanting spooky-season adventure.
Winter family fun in KC

Union Station’s “Holiday Reflections”
The ultimate family holiday adventure in Kansas City is Union Station.
Each December, Union Station transforms into a winter wonderland with a tot train, visits from Santa Claus, photo ops, and more.
Be sure to check out the miniature train displays (holiday and not!) in the back of the hall. We could spend hours there admiring all the details.
Cut down your Christmas tree
We loved cutting down our own Christmas tree at Fulk’s Tree Farm in Weston each winter.
Bundling up to hunt for the perfect tree became our favorite family winter tradition!
Spring family fun in Kansas City
Pick tulips

One spring in Kansas, we braved the chilly winds for the tulip fields in Kearney, Missouri. And it was worth the cold fingers!
Wandering through fields bursting with colorful blooms was truly enchanting. Plus, there is a great play area for kids too!
Pick strawberries!
Head back to Weston Orchard in May to pick your own strawberries! They are absolutely delectable, and so easy to pick.
Pick to eat, to bake into pies, and to stock the freezer!
Summer family fun in KC
Play mini golf at the art museum

We loved visiting the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art every month of the year, but especially in summer for their awesome mini golf on the lawn.
The seasonal course features holes that showcase artwork from the museum and are a blast for all ages!
Pro tip: Brunch at the museum is my favorite way to celebrate Mother’s Day. The Rozzelle Court Restaurant is stunning, and the food is great.
Adventure at Worlds of Fun

Worlds of Fun (and Oceans of Fun) are great places for summer family fun in KC!
The Planet Snoopy section of the park is the perfect introduction to theme park for littles. Most of the rides have a 36″ height minimum, and some have none at all!
My 4- and 3-year-olds loved riding the rides and marveled at all things Snoopy!
Worlds of Fun is open late April through October.
Feed goats at Deanna Rose

Deanna Rose Children’s Farmstead is open April through October. It’s a great summer family outing featuring farm animals, activities, demonstrations, and more!
Deanna Rose has multiple great playgrounds too.
